After a super bright, colourful and fun projector with a serious side? How about all of that PLUS it fits in your pocket?
Well well well, it seems that we might have a projector for you then. Today we’re going to be taking a serious look at this pint-sized mini projector from Vivitek called the Qumi Q5.
A while back we reviewed the Vivitek Qumi Q2 and were mighty impressed.
So how does the Vivitek Qumi Q5 stack up? Read on to find out.
Vivitek Qumi Q5 Features Overview
Immediately one of the coolest things to note about the Vivitek Qumi Q5 is that you can add your own splash of colour to this unit with 5 (!) different colour options to choose from.
You have your standard classic black, navy blue, a really lucious looking red, white for that minimalist look and lastly something with a bit of attitude, a canary yellow.
But it’s not just the colours that made our eyes pop. There’s some pretty good specs on board here too.
The Qumi Q5 has a native resolution of WXGA (1280 x 800), HD 720p. It can also scale up to UXGA (1600 x 1200).
It has a sick contrast ratio of 10,000:1 and a brightness rating of up to 500 ANSI lumens. Reports direct from users are that this unit has really great colours and in a light controlled room deep blacks much akin to a projector 4-6x the price.
Video input compatibility includes SDTV(480i), EDTV (480p), HDTV (720p,1080i/p), NTSC/NTSC 4.43, PAL B/G/H/I/M/N 60, SECAM.
There’s also an audio out port for headphone enjoyment if you don’t want to use the included 2w speaker (who would?). You could also hook up some powered speakers which would be great for video presentations or movie nights.
We liked that on their website they have an optimum distance calculator for their projectors including the Qumi Q5. Check it out along with some more specs.
One thing that’s noticeably missing is onboard storage and MicroSD card compatibility which would place this firmly on the road as a business projector. It has all the software and document compatiblities (shown below) so it’s a little puzzling why they left it these two out.
- Microsoft® Office (Word, Excel®, PowerPoint®),
- Adobe® PDF and Text (.txt)
- MPEG-4, H.264, Divx™, WMV
- JPEG, PNG, BMP, GIF
- MP3, WAV
There is an included remote, but most people find that it could use some improvement and isn’t really functional enough.
Vivitek Qumi Q5 Technology Overview
The projection is 16:10 native, but also 4:3 & 16:9 compatible. It has a fixed lense, but there is a cool software feature for doing digital zoom which we thought was a great addition.
Power consumption on this unit is great at 65W (in boost mode) but less than 0.5W when placed in standby. The battery pack is unfortunately not included as standard though which is a shame.
The Vivitek Qumi Q5 is also 3D ready via DLP link and can have wireless capability through an optional WiFi USB dongle.
