WowWee have put together a really innovative looking product with the Cinemin Swivel Multimedia mini projector.
The most interesting thing about this projector is the fact you can’t use it with your computer, laptop or netbook. It’s exclusively for mobile devices which is a refreshing approach from the one-size-fits-all that usually happens with mini projectors.
Mini Projector Features
The Cinemin Swivel Multimedia mini projector has a very unique look. At first glance it could even be mistaken for a mobile phone with it’s swivel tilting action and small size.
The Swivel gets it name from the unique 90 degree hinge that helps you project your image onto any surface. It’s pretty cool actually, because you’ll never really need a dedicated tripod, which can be a pain to lug around.
Because this is a device made for other mobile devices like smart phones, PSPs, Flips, digital cameras, and loads more you’ll find that the connectivity options are wide and varied. About the only thing it won’t do is connect to your computer. It comes with a variety of cables including the iPod/iPhone cable.
The native res is slightly small at 480x320px but that’s not usually a problem with handheld devices and it certainly doesn’t put any limits on the device’s projection capabilities. You can project a surprisingly crisp 60″ (1.5m) image from over 8 feet (2.4m) away without too much quality loss.
This projector uses DLP technology and the brightness and contrast are both quite good for it’s size as well, though more suited for movie and picture viewing than reading text unless the font is really big.
Using This Mini Projector
What is really awesome about the Cinemin projector is the swivel head. We love it! It’s a really innovative feature and makes watching movies in bed so much more comfortable, something that shows they really have paid attention to what people will really be using this for and not trying to design it for everyone.
The brightness and resolution could be better, but as the main use time will be night, it’s really not a problem and for the size of the unit (which is around the size of my iPhone 4, but a bit fatter) you’ll be more than pleased.
It also has a soft padded case included which makes it great for travelling.
