Review: Optoma PK301 Pico Pocket Projector
If you’re after the power of presentations in your hand, this is it. Literally the tiny little Optoma PK301, the latest in Optoma’s little Pico range of mini projectors, will fit into the palm of your hand.
This is the ultimate mini projector for people on the run. It’s tiny form factor lets you drop it into your laptop bag or handbag and away you go.
Mini Projector Features
The Optoma PK301 is a significant step up from the PK201, the previous model from Optoma. With a whole new external design you’ll also find some greatly improved internal specs as well.
Boasting a ridiculous 50 lumens, it’s probably one of the brightest mini projectors we’ve reviewed. You’ll need either the extended battery pack or the wall power adapter to achieve that, but even on regular batteries it still pumps out an impressive 20 lumens.
The other cool thing is the resolution. It seems most mini projector makers assume we’re all using square resolutions still, but not Optoma. The PK301 projects a native resolution of 854 x 480 – a standard WVGA widescreen format.
It also goes up to a massive 1280 x 800 when using the VGA adapter, the biggest resolution we’ve seen to date on a mini projector. You can also expect to have a projected image of an astonishing 120″ (3m).
Now, the only complaints we had was that there are a lot of external optional accessories to buy which then puts this projector on the high end of the budget scale. But if that’s not a problem and the benefits outweigh the cost then you’re really spoiled for choice.
Check out these optional extras:

Using this Mini Projector
The Optoma PK301 is the ideal business person’s projector. It’s light, looks great and actually works as advertised. This is one great leap ahead in mini projector technology.
We liked the fact that you can project more native widescreen resolutions and the fact that the brightness is excellent when compared to other mini projectors of the same price bracket.
The price is okay for what you’re getting – be prepared to fork out a little extra cash for the accessories.
