Summary:

The Acer C120 is a great laptop companion. It's bright and portable and perfect for business users to present direct from your laptop without the need for a power source. Though it doesn't have a large collection of connectivity ports, it's making no apologies for knowing exactly what it's purpose is and the USB 3.0 port is flexible enough to hook up to any of the latest laptops out there. A very well thought out business grade mini projector.

Are you looking for a companion mini projector for your laptop?

Well you should take a squiz at the Acer C120 mini projector; it’s made for exactly this scenario.

Acer have created a very dynamic and extremely portable projector that works over USB to turn your laptop into a truly portable presentation device that doesn’t even require a power source.

It has some interesting features as well as some drawbacks, so let’s go through them now.

Acer C120 Features

Acer C120 Mini Projector The Acer C120 is a new spin on projector technologies by Acer. They’ve released some other mini projectors, such as the Acer K11, but this one is more of a laptop companion.

What exactly do we mean by the term “laptop companion”? Well, it’s features are really built to be used side-by-side with a laptop.

There’s no other connectors than USB, not even a VGA port, so the display and power are both coming from a USB 3.0 port as well as a second USB 2.0 port for extra power.

Acer C120 Mini Projector The cable for the device comes with in the box and it’s a two headed beast. One end goes into the mini projector and the other end has two ends. The first is USB 3.0, which is used to power the display and also draw enough power for the Acer C120 to power itself in Eco mode.

When you just have this one port plugged in the C120 runs at a brightness of 75 ANSI lumens. The cool part comes when you plug in the second USB cable, it uses this port for power only and boosts the lumen output to 100 ANSI lumens. It’s quite bright for a mini projector.

There is also an included power adapter which can be used instead of the second USB port’s power. This is handy because the second cable length is a little short and can’t reach around the other side of the computer.

Acer C120 unboxing and demo video:

So while we’re a little disappointed that the Acer C120 doesn’t have the extra connectivity options we’re use to like HDMI or iPhone connectivity and it doesn’t have cool software or internal memory, but it is a handy laptop companion, it’s bright and it’s very portable.

Acer C120 Technology

Acer C120 Mini Projector The Acer C120 runs on a Texas Instruments DLP lighting engine driven by super bright LEDs. The LED lamp life will last 20,000 hours according to manufacturers spec.

It has a maximum resolution of 1,280 x 800 (WXGA).

As mentioned it has just the one connectivity port, a USB 3.0 Micro-B.

What’s in the box?

  • AC to DC power adapter
  • USB cable
  • Protection case
  • User’s guide (CD-ROM)
  • Quick start guide

Conclusion

The Acer C120 is a great laptop companion. It's bright and portable and perfect for business users to present direct from your laptop without the need for a power source. Though it doesn't have a large collection of connectivity ports, it's making no apologies for knowing exactly what it's purpose is and the USB 3.0 port is flexible enough to hook up to any of the latest laptops out there. A very well thought out business grade mini projector.
