Summary:

The 3M MP410 is a step up from it's predecessors. With vivid colors and super bright picture we can totally recommend this mini projector as a great home theatre replacement. It's also light and small enough to become a business projection unit and with it's wide file support for business presentations and videos it's easy to see why. We think it's a top of the line projector with a great future ahead of it.

It seems that 3M have gone back to the drawing board after the MPRO120 and MPRO160 mini projectors because the 3M MP410 is completely rebuilt with some seriously top notch features.

Previously, it seemed that 3M were focusing on size and letting a lot of other things like image quality slip by the way side. Not so with the 3M MP410. It’s a completely new internal package, shiny new exterior look and still keeps the size and weight under tight control.

Mini Projector Features

3M MP410 Mini Projector Physically it’s beautiful. A nice straight rectangular cube design with flush controls on top and a grated side panel to keep things cool. The unit has loads of connectivity options on the back and along with the main controls on top it also features a focus slider.

The size of the unit is a mere 4″ x 4″ x 1.7″ (10cm x 10cm x 4.3cm) so while it’s not quite as slender as previous 3M models it still fits right in your hand. It also only weighs 13 ounces (~370 grams).

The 3M MP410 projects a crystal clear 100″ (~2.5m) image at a widescreen native resolution of WXGA (1280 x 768).

Brightness is rated at 300 ANSI lumens and it has an absolutely insane contrast ratio of 10,000:1.

3M MP410 Mini Projector Connectivity options abound. There is:

  1. microSD™ card slot
  2. USB Type A connector
  3. DC input connector
  4. Audio input connector
  5. HDMI connector
  6. Universal I/O connector (for VGA cable)
  7. Security cable slot

Yes, a security cable slot which I presume is there to make this projector a serious business contender for schools, tafes, universities, and other places where it can be mounted permanently.

There is an internal storage capacity of 1GB and you can extend this with the microSD card slot up to 32GB.

3M MP410 Mini Projector The only let down connectivity-wise with the 3M MP410 is the underpowered speaker and absence of audio out port which seems like a bit of an oversight.

One of the newer connectivity options here is WiFi connectivity (via optional USB dongle) which is starting to show up on a few of the newer high end projectors like the Dell M110 which we reviewed recently.

Kind of reminds me of when LED TVs first started featuring WiFi, they stated with a USB dongle, then gradually moved to support it on board. I suspect it will be the same with mini projectors.

The internal player supports a huge range of file formats as expected of a modern mini projector:

  • Photo: JPG/JPEG, BMP
  • Video: MOV, MP4, H264, AVI, MKV, DIVX, MPEG4, WMV, WMV3
  • Audio: MP1, MP2, MP3, WMA
  • Data: DOC, XLS, PPT, PDF

Mini Projector Technology

The 3M MP410 runs on the latest DLP LED projection technology. It features Super bright LEDs lasting a predicted lifetime of 20,000 hours.

We think the introduction of wireless connectivity is pretty neat even though you need to purchase the USB dongle separately. It’s a peer-to-peer WiFi connection only though, which we thought might actually be better achieved via Bluetooth.. oh well, it’s still cool.

What’s in the box?

  • MP410 Mobile Projector
  • Computer (VGA) cable
  • Soft carry case
  • Power adapter/cord
  • User manual CD
  • Quick Start Guide

Optional WiFi dongle can be purchased separately but we couldn’t find on on Amazon. We did however find the remote which might be handy, click here for details.

Conclusion

The 3M MP410 is a step up from it's predecessors. With vivid colors and super bright picture we can totally recommend this mini projector as a great home theatre replacement. It's also light and small enough to become a business projection unit and with it's wide file support for business presentations and videos it's easy to see why. We think it's a top of the line projector with a great future ahead of it.
